Welcome to Reception!

My name is Mrs Williams. I am delighted to be your child’s class teacher. We are also supported this year by Miss Bissell, Mrs Hayer and Mrs Hiskett (Tuesday). If you have any questions, or need any help, please come and speak to us at any time.

Reading

Children will bring home reading books to share with you, as well as sounds and words they have been learning in school. To begin with, these are wordless books and children are encouraged to tell the story from the pictures. Please can children bring reading books into school every day so staff can read and swap books with them.

Please record all reading on Go Read and speak to us if you have any issues accessing. Log in details will be sent home with the children individually.

Promoting Independence

Each dafuit snackthe children will have access to fruit, milk and water. In the Reception Class children will be encouraged to serve and clean up for themselves to promote their independence and self-reliance. We also encourage children to use a knife and fork to cut their food and dress themselves independently.

Home Learning

We will send home challenges for children to complete over each half term linked to our topic. Homework activities will also be added to the activity tab on your child's Seesaw account.

Please check your child's seesaw journal for updates and information - you can also contact staff directly with and questions through this.

We regularly update with photos and information about your child's learning and progress.

If you need any help accessing seesaw please speak to a member of the reception team who will happily help you.

Phonics

ELS.jpg

We follow the Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS) phonics scheme. Children will be taught to confidently blend simple words together with sounds from phase 2 and 3 from the sound chart below. The pictures and rhymes help the children to remember the sounds. The children already know all the single letter sounds and are now consolidating the phase 3. Diagraphs are two or more letters together which make one sound. For example 'ee' in feel is blended as f-ee-l. Children can practice thier sounds at home and use thier robot arms to help them sound out unfamiliar words when reading.
